
New Minister of Transport and Local Government visited Reykjavik City Airport
Eyjólfur Ármannsson, Minister of Transport and Local Government, visited Reykjavik City Airport, where Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir, CEO of Isavia Regional Airports, introduced him to the company's operations.
Regional Airports is a subsidiary of Isavia ohf., responsible for managing and servicing Icelandic scheduled airports, including international airports in Reykjavik, Akureyri, and Egilsstaðir. Sigrún Björk highlighted the importance of robust airport operations for the country's overall quality of life and discussed strategic priorities up to 2027, including operational reliability, visibility, energy transition, sustainability, communication, and collaboration. The passenger count for the year was around 700,000, consistent with the previous two years.
Discussions included the expansion of Akureyri Airport, upcoming projects at Egilsstaðir Airport, and the "NEA electric aircraft project". The meeting also addressed the impact of environmental factors on airport operations, such as construction in the new Skerjafjörður area and tree growth in Öskjuhlíð affecting flight safety.
