EasyJet now offers flights from both London and Manchester to Akureyri

EasyJet has launched scheduled flights to Akureyri Airport from the UK, with direct flights available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday this winter. This marks the second winter with flights between Gatwick and Akureyri, and now Manchester has also been added. This expansion is a welcome boost for the tourism industry in northern Iceland and the local community.

Drone ban above 60 meters valid till the end of June

Due to a volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority has, at the request of the Civil Protection Coordination Centre, prohibited drone flights above 60 meters above ground. The ban is valid until midnight on June 30th, 2024.

The British airline easyJet announced today, Tuesday June 11th, that it will offer flights from both London and Manchester to Akureyri next winter. The announcement follows a successful winter for easyJet, which offered flights from London to Akureyri for the first time. Flights will operate on Saturdays and Tuesdays from Manchester and London.

Accelerating transition to electricity in Air Transportation

The future of energy transition and electric aviation was the topic of discussion when representatives of Icelandic authorities and stakeholders attended a workshop on the NEA (Nordic Network for Electric Aviation) electric aircraft project last month. Within the NEA framework, Isavia, led by its subsidiary Isavia Regional Airports, Icelandair, and operators of other airports and airlines in the Nordic countries, along with aircraft manufacturers, have joined forces to accelerate the energy transition in aviation to the greatest extent possible. The collaboration focuses on electric aviation.

Inaugural easyJet flight to Akureyri

History was made today in Akureyri, North Iceland when easyJet completed its inaugural flight from London Gatwick. Flying twice a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays, easyJet is the first foreign airline to operate scheduled international flights to Akureyri.
